It will be the annual event for anyone interested in local, national, and international history…

The first West Cork History Festival will take place over the weekend of 28th-30th July 2017. The programme will span a diverse set of places, historical subjects and periods, from the local to the international, ranging from the Knights Templar to the events of the Irish revolutionary period in West Cork. Leading historians will be joined by journalists and senior diplomats, and while much of their focus will be on Irish themes, the perspective will be international. The festival will be informal, participatory and with a menu for the intellectually omnivorous.

  1. Congratulations on all counts and very best wishes for continued support and success. I’m not free for the entire weekend but will explore the possibility of being there for Fri and Sat..

  2. Congrats on organising the festival.
    Two Questions:
Are there still places available? I would hope to attend for 1-2 days anyway.

Will you have any book stand/ book fair as part of the conference?
The reason I ask is that some months ago I launched a local history book ‘From Laois to Kerry’ which deals with the plantation of Laois and its aftermath including a major Kerry (and a little Cork!) connection. The book has been quite successful and indeed was winner of the Nilsson Heritage Prize at Listowel Writers week about a month ago. Also in recent months I have been giving a few talks on the book to Historical societies etc.
I am a UCC recent retiree and will know some of the speakers such as David Edwards quite well.

    1. Dear Mr Keane,
Thank you for your email and your interest in the West Cork History Festival. Places are still available for all the sessions (although some are booking up fast) and tickets be booked via this website.

With regards to the books, please contact me directly on westcorkhistoryfestival@gmail.com

      Best wishes
      Victoria Kingston

  3. Congratulations on a great venture. Hope it all goes well, and will be there next year! Can’t come this time, unfortunately.
